John Deere Tiller Blade

Today's favorite find....in Ohio we have A LOT of corn fields.  So we also have a lot of equipment to work those fields.  This piece is a tiller blade from a John Deere tractor.  I think it's really cool looking.  Reminds me of the Alice in Chains sun logo they used.  I think this could be turned into a neat upcycled piece, a clock or something, or even just as it is with some painted decoration.  It is heavy solid cast iron.  I like that the paint is worn off the blades, showing that it's been used. I think this tractor's sexy lol.

Vintage Pinup Girl Lighter

My favorite find today......a lighter.  Did you know that there are lighter museums?  I had no idea until I started to try and research this piece.....never did find anything specific about it, but I did find hundreds of very cool lighters in my search.

This particular one is marked 'Japan' and 'National'.  Features 4 pictures of a pinup girl.  I'm not sure if it's the same girl each time or not.  They are all brunettes and one image looks very much like the infamous Bettie Page.  Research leads me to wandering.....Bettie had an interesting life  - born in the 20's, mother was divorced, father molested her, she got a bachelor's degree, worked as a secretary, did the pinup thing, became 'born again', diagnosed schizophrenic - just interesting.

While I learned all about Bettie Page, I couldn't find a thing on any company named 'National' that made lighters.

Here's the lighter:

I'm still here.....

Yes I'm still here, and we're still plugging away.  There was a stretch there that I wasn't finding anything that really tickled my fancy and so I stalled out in my writing a bit.  Don't get me wrong, I'm still buying and selling but I want the things I put on here to be things that are 'special'.  Not necessarily expensive, or rare, just things that are you know, special lol.  Never fear though, after the short dry spell there have been a couple goodies that I've snatched up (one was a squealer!, yes I squealed) to share and I will do so soon.   The summer sun is sure to get me motivated :)  Feel free to check out my ebay store:  http://stores.ebay.com/Ohio-Treasure-Chest?_rdc=1

Vintage 1950's Coat

Vintage Coat - 1950-1960's based on the garment workers union label sewn inside.  Len Artel, made in Belgium.  This was a high quality coat, thick and warm.  What I like best is the Rike's Label inside.  Big old department store in downtown Dayton, OH that was a shopping destination back in the day.  Here's a link to the youtube video showing the store being imploded years ago:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g2muLLJcCT8 .  A  cool link to dating clothing article:   How to Date Clothing as Vintage « Sammy Davis Vintage.

Antique Whiskey Bottle

AWESOME 100+ year old bottle.  The Fred Kette and Sons Co. operated in Dayton, Ohio from 1882-1918.  Based on the address listed on the bottle, this one is from 1910-1912.  Retains part of original cork, original label, and box!  A super find.  Large size (pint, I think?) 10"x3.5"x2".  I love how the label says no other poisons have been added lol.

HO Scale Train Model Village

I bought a village!  Ha, I came across a large lot of scale models used for making mini villages, usually people build these to go with their train sets.  I got them off of a retired man who built them all when he was younger in the 50's and 60's.  I like these because they remind me of the move Beetlejuice "nice bleeping model! honk honk" :).  Pretty cool pieces a lumber yard, houses, post office, fire station, etc..  I'll be selling all these in true action fashion with low starting prices!  Auction to go on over this coming week - see the link to my ebay page on the side.
